In consideration of the alarming rise of hate and anti-Semitism worldwide, we, mayors from across the globe, hereby declare our outright condemnation of all forms of hate, and anti-Semitism.
Affirming this first-of-its-kind declaration, in response to the global rise of hatred and anti-Semitism, in many forms including but not limited to the antisemitic "BDS Movement," we unequivocally condemn all forms of hatred, prejudice and disrespect which has infiltrated our society. We, municipal leaders from across the globe, who in our every day jobs touch, feel and sense the people of our cities, realize that we cannot avoid our responsibility in taking part in the global efforts to act against these phenomena.
Following a fascinating brainstorming session with mayors from Israel and around the world, of different cultures and faiths, men and women alike, we hereby proclaim our resolve to establish an International Coalition of Mayors for Combating Hatred, Anti-Semitism and the BDS movement. We join in the notion of responsibility to stand up against discrimination, bias and hatred of anyone based on their race, religion, ethnic background, national origin, or gender.
Having declared our resolve, we urge all levels of government to take action to counter these concerning trends.
We thereby commit to:
1. Holding an annual gathering, each year in a different venue, in order to promote the issues at hand.
2. Taking concrete steps, each Mayor in his/her domain, to raise awareness to this matter within the formal and informal educational systems and to encourage reports of incidents of violence.
3. Examining the possibility of forwarding relevant legislation regarding the matters at hand.
4. Exploring ways to join forces to unite against the rise of bigotry around the world.
Affirming this, we affix our signatures to this declaration and reiterate our commitment to combating all forms of hate, anti-Semitism and BDS.
